Uba Watler Obituary, Death – We regret to inform you that Uba Watler has passed away. On April 10, 2023, Uba Mae Watler, 99, died at Select Hospital in Evansville, IN. She was born in New Albany, Indiana, on April 16, 1923, to Herbert and Magdalena Grimes. Uba’s daughter Janet (Paul) Storey and son John Watler II survive her. Her grandkids include Thomas Storey, Rebecca Gentle, John Watler III, Elizabeth Watler, Kali White (George), and Donald Watler.
Uba was particularly devoted to her four great-grandchildren, Andre Gentle, Joshua Gentle, Kambria Watler, and Bennett White. She was also survived by nieces and nephews whom she adored. Uba was preceded in death by her parents, husband John L Watler Sr., son Glen Watler, daughter-in-law Barbara Watler, and sisters Christina Fish and Margaret Lacefield.
Uba graduated from New Albany High School and joined the US Navy, where she served until November 1945. She was a certified public accountant and a partner at Watler Accounting CPAs PC until her retirement at the age of 97. She was an essential component of the Watler offices’ development and expansion, particularly in the areas of firm standards and staff assistance. Uba adored and respected her clients and employees, and she maintained strong relationships with them for as long as her health permitted.
Uba’s main delight in life was her family and friends, and she relished any activity that involved them. She and her husband, John, were both pilots and enjoyed designing and building their homes together. She enjoyed her job and had numerous interests, including reading and crocheting. She knitted afghans for all of her family’s babies, and they remain treasured memories to this day. Uba loved life and everyone around her.
She had a superb dry sense of humour and was constantly carrying a candy dish. Her white Christmas cookies were particularly appreciated by the recipients. She has left us with memories that will bring us joy for the rest of our lives. On Sunday, April 16, 2023, Uba was buried in Summit Lawn Cemetery in Brazil, IN, following a private family service. Her 100th birthday had arrived.
