Michael Smith Obituary, Death – The Grand Haven Coast Festival would like to extend its deepest condolences to the Smith family on the loss of Commander Michael J. Smith, USCG (Retired), who served in the post of Executive Director. Commander Michael J. Smith was responsible for overseeing the festival’s operations.
The festival would not exist or have grown to its current size without Commander Smith’s assistance. The anchor that is situated atop Dewey Hill will be raised and lit in Mike’s honor on Saturday, April 29, 2023.
The anchor will continue to be illuminated until the day that he is laid to rest, and it will remain raised and lit until that time. This is a recognition of the fact that Mike has established such a high standard for the rest of our community to strive for.
