Melinda Wareham Obituary, Death – A woman was killed in a two-car accident late Wednesday morning just north of Holton in Texas. A guy was taken into jail on Thursday in connection with the incident, which is being investigated as a possible case of involuntary manslaughter as well as driving under the influence.
According to Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse, Ayinde Jriel James, 44, of Fort Worth, was also being held in connection with reckless driving and unlawfully having a controlled narcotic. James is from Fort Worth.
Melinda J. Wareham, 74, of Whiting in northeast Jackson County, died around 10:50 a.m. Wednesday on US-75 highway about two miles north of Holton, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol, who reported that the crash caused her death. The crash occurred about two miles north of Holton.
According to the accident report from the highway patrol, James was driving a car that was traveling north on US-75 when it collided with a vehicle that was being driven south by Wareham. According to the report, the collision took place when James “began to pass numerous vehicles without sufficient clearance” from Wareham’s vehicle. James was “traveling at excessive speeds” at the time. Within the scope of this investigation, US-75 is a two-lane roadway.
Morse said that Wareham was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. According to the accident report, James appeared to have had only minor injuries. Morse reported that the highway patrol had taken James into custody and had booked him into the Jackson County Jail in Holton.
According to the report of the accident, both drivers were by themselves in their vehicles at the time of the collision, and both drivers wore seat belts.
