Jimmy Huffman Obituary, Death –Jimmy (Jim) Dolphus Huffman, 86, of 217 River Ridge Road, Eden, NC, died Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Hospice of Rockingham County’s Gibson House.
First Wesleyan Church in Eden will host a funeral at 2pm Saturday, April 22, 2023, followed by entombment at Roselawn Mausoleum. First Wesleyan Church, 607 Church Street, will host visitation from 1-2pm before the service.
Jim’s parents were Edward Posey and Margaret Elizabeth Huffman. He was a US Army veteran. He graduated from Brevard College and East Tennessee State University, where he played basketball and baseball.
After graduating, he worked at Fieldcrest Mills in Eden, retiring as Director of Purchasing. Jim and his son Kevin proudly owned Huffman Medical, Inc. after retirement.
Jim liked people and served his community. He was an officer in the Y’s Men Club, Help, Inc., Caregivers of Rockingham County, and The Salvation Army.
He received the Eden Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year Award, the North Carolina General Assembly’s commendation for his work with the American Red Cross, and Governor Jim Martin’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service.
Jim donated 53 liters of blood in his lifetime, the most in Rockingham County. Jim played pickleball later in life because he enjoyed tennis. He was known as “Pickleball Guy” and could compete with players half his age.
The “Candyman”—as many called him—always gave you a Butterfinger whether you won or lost. Papa to his four grandchildren was his favorite name.
Jim’s wife, Peggy Jean Tucker Huffman, died alongside his parents and brothers. His son Kevin Huffman, wife Carla, daughter Allison Ormond, and husband Macon, both of Eden; grandchildren Katie Ormond, Tori Pierce and husband Devin, Jacob Ormond and wife Haley, and Kylie Huffman; nieces Rexanna Lowman and Susan Royall; and his cherished fur-baby, Lizzie, survive.
