Grace Worthington Obituary, Death – Grace My grandmother, Catherine Worthington, or “Kate” as we knew her in the family, passed away on April 14 at her home in Northglenn, Colorado. On May 1, 1933, in Vincennes, Indiana, Kate Arthur was born to parents Pearl J. (Murphy) and James W. Arthur. She was the last of the family’s fifteen children and the fourteenth overall.
For the most part of her childhood, Kate and her younger brother Frank lived in the Robinson, Illinois, area, where they spent their time playing in the woods and fishing in the creeks.
Many of her sisters were like pals to her, but Norma in particular. While financially strapped, they nevertheless managed to have fun and enjoy one other’s company.
Kate wed the late Robert Matheney in the early 1950s, and he passed away not long after. They had two kids, Lyssa and Richard. Kate and Thomas Worthington formed a family that now includes Kathy, Tom (Tug), and James after they met and married.
Before relocating to Northglenn, Colorado so that Thomas could pursue his baking career, Kate and Thomas called Des Moines, Iowa home. Kate worked for a large portion of her life, too, after convincing Thomas that women could work and be good moms at the same time.
Her ideal career would be working as a central supply manager in a retirement community or hospital. During her retirement, she helped raise her grandchildren while also holding holiday parties where the yams were always overcooked and the fudge was impossible to resist.
