Charlotte Mitchell Obituary, Death – We regret to inform you that on Monday, April 24, 2023, Charlotte Mitchell, a longtime member, passed away. Charlotte would have turned 100 years old had she not died a few months before. She gave generously of her time, expertise, and leadership to numerous organizations over the course of her long life.
Charlotte was the organization’s treasurer and president throughout her many years on the board of directors for Long Beach Heritage. She appeared at nearly every Long Beach Heritage gathering.
She was a driving force behind the creation of the Navy Trust, which gives money to Long Beach residents and groups working to preserve the city. After reaching an agreement with the United States Naval Shipyard over the deconstruction of the Roosevelt Administration Building, the trust was established. The trust is intended to last forever.
Charlotte was also dedicated to her time as vice president in charge of the Bembridge House. Chris Hogan, the president of the Long Beach Heritage, said that Charlotte served as a mentor to him throughout his time in the position after she resigned. What I know about the Bembridge House, I learned from her.
Charlotte received the Preservationist of the Year Award and the Long Beach Heritage Lifetime Achievement Award for her dedication to preserving the city’s architectural and cultural history.
A lifetime achievement award has been given to her alone. We mourn the loss of Charlotte and offer our sincere sympathies to her daughter Mary Ellen and the rest of her family and many friends. Charlotte’s funeral will be held on May 9, 2023, at 2:00 PM, at Forest Lawn in Cypress.
