Charlie Slocombe Obituary, EMC Academy Former Coach Has Died

Charlie Slocombe Obituary, Death – After falling on the field while playing the sport he cherished, our good friend and former coach went suddenly on July 23, 2019. He had been enjoying the game for many years. Charlie’s age was only 25 at the time. After hearing this devastating news, as well as the increased awareness of the risk of sudden cardiac arrest among football players.

We reached out to Charlie’s family to ask whether we could respect his memory and gather the necessary monies to have our very own defibrillators available at every game, soccer school, and event that we host. Because of this, #THECHARLIESLOCOMBECUP came into being. In order to get us started on our road toward our fundraising goal, Charlie’s family gave us our very first defibrillator as a gift. Because of all of the help and support that we received at our very first charity weekend, which took place in 2021, we were able to raise over £4000, which was then matched by a local medical firm that saw our struggle reported in the press.

As a result, we are now the VERY proud owners of 7 defibrillators. The proceeds from today’s match as well as the raffle will be put toward the general upkeep and annual maintenance of our defibrillators. And so, we are overjoyed to be able to pay tribute to Charlie at the game we are playing today, when there will be a one-minute standing ovation. I’m dedicating this one to you, Charlie.
