Charlie Durning Obituary, Death – We are passing along the news that Charlie, our most fantastic convenor for U21, passed away unexpectedly late on Sunday night. We are passing along the news that Charlie, our most fantastic convenor for U21, passed away unexpectedly late on Sunday night. It is with a heavy heart that we do so. Charlie went to our annual volunteer gala not too long ago, when he was presented with an award for his service to the U21 House League Division. I reached out to the WMHA with the intention of giving back just a few short years ago. At the time, I did not know anyone else involved in the association, nor did I have any children or grandchildren who were members.

Over the course of the subsequent months, he was moved up to the U21 level of the WMHA, which is our most senior league. Charlie devoted a significant amount of time and energy each week to taking pleasure in the fact that he was a member of our hockey community at good ol’ Knox. A good number of you had the extraordinary opportunity to engage in genuine discourse with Charlie. When we spoke to his daughter, she told us that she felt it was vital to immediately reach out to the individuals and the organization that, in her words, “gave him purpose” and “in which he felt great pride in being a part of.”

Even though Charlie was retired, he spent his summers volunteering with the WMHA and working as a groundskeeper at a local golf course. He is survived by three daughters who have grown up as well as grandkids who will miss Dad very much. His grandkids, whom he spoke about with great pride, had recently started playing hockey and were overjoyed at the prospect of their grandfather being a part of the team. Charlie, you should get some rest. We count ourselves extremely fortunate to have been a part of your journey. We are grateful to each and every one of you for helping Charlie feel at home and for making him a part of our WMHA family.
