Cathy Shaw Obituary, Death – On April 20, 2023, in Anderson, South Carolina, Cathy Bryant Shaw, 71, passed away suddenly. Her unexpected passing has left her loved ones devastated.
Cathy was born to Alvin Lee Bryant and Betty Joyce Bryant on November 12, 1951. She went to McDuffie High School and grew up in Anderson.
She had a thirst for knowledge that led her to further her education at Clemson, Anderson, and Furman universities. James Ricky Shaw, Cathy’s husband, is the sole heir to her estate. On May 11 of that year (2023), they would have marked 50 years of marriage.
Cathy also leaves behind her cherished grandkids, Claire and James, as well as her sons, Dustin and Jason (Laura). Debbie Cowan (David) is lovingly remembered and adored by her niece and nephew and their families.
Cathy’s parents, sister Angela Gale Gerrard, and daughter Jaime Michelle Shaw all passed away before she did. Scripture says that “the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:19
Cathy’s legacy is one of kindness and humanity. Relationship-building and empathy were two of Cathy’s greatest strengths. Because of her kind heart and empathetic demeanor, she had a successful and lengthy teaching career. Cathy spent 40 years working as a teacher, counselor, and administrator in Anderson District 5.
Cathy’s life was filled with heartbreak, but the death of her daughter, Jaime, was the worst. Cathy’s kindness endured even as her anguish intensified. She cared deeply about the people in her life, including her numerous students and friends.
Many people will miss her greatly. When weighed against the splendor that will be revealed to us, the sufferings of this present moment seem like nothing. In Romans 8:18
Those who knew and loved Cathy on Earth will miss her greatly, but we celebrate the fact that she is once again with her heavenly family. God bless him for giving us Cathy Shaw.
There will be a visitation for friends and family on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, from 1:00 to 2:45. At 3:00, the chapel will be the site of the funeral service. Debbie Cowan, Cathy’s sister, will host the get-together.
